What’s Your Resolution? November 25, 2007
Posted by *christuttle* in : tuttle says... , trackbackNo, no… not your New Year’s Resolution! Unlike your neighborhood drug stores I refused to start decorating for Christmas the day after Halloween and, likewise, I’m not going to start asking you what your New Years Resolution is now that Thanksgiving is passed.
How sad is it that we start prepping for holidays before the current one is over? Sigh. Anyway, that’s not what this post is about.
I need your assistance. What’s your browser’s viewable resolution? You see, I’m working on a bunch of web-projects right now and the last decades of larger and wider screens seems to have led to something I’m personally finding a little unbelievable–that the “average” user’s screen is 1200×800 pixels. That’s huge! According to stats from my most popular websites, over 96% of users have a screen at least 1000 pixels wide. Honestly, I’m a little shocked this number is so high. But, this is also their screen resolution and doesn’t necessarily represent their browsers viewable screen resolution (eg; browser toolbars take space and you may not use your browser in full-screen mode).
Ohh, and btw, I’m not shocked because people have big screens, however. I’m shocked because people are still using Windows NT, 98 and 2000 AND have big screens. Are folks upgrading their screens and just “making do” with the hard drives and operating systems of days gone by? Operating Systems that aren’t even supported any more, at that.
Anyway–that doesn’t matter. Honestly, I don’t care what your OS is. But, I do care what your browser’s “viewable” resolution is… so, could you help me out?
HELP ME OUT!
I’ve created a really easy webpage to help you figure it out and let me know! Simply GO HERE, open the browser to your preferred size and then comment back here, or email me, the dimensions. Please use the numbers for HEIGHT and WIDTH found in the largest FULL row of color you can see.
MUCH THX & Love!
Ohh, and Happy New Year!

600×1200
600×1000
I’m lookin’ at 1280×600. There’s space east of the 1200 bar, so I’m just guessing 80 more pixels.
Btw, the colors are in the wrong order.
600×1200
1280×1024
What can I say? I like ‘em big.
I take back the 1024 that’s my screen res. In the browser it’s more like 860. My browser screen stops right under where it says Height=900
600 x bigger than the 1200. Like, way bigger. Like, 2 more than 1200. Maybe it’s because I have a mac? A wide slutty mac?
Thanks everyone for the help!!! Exactly what I needed to know!
