To Be Popular November 19, 2007

Thanks to Joe.My.God for pointing us towards the US Name Count at the NY Times.  According to their reports my last name, Tuttle, is the 1169th most popular name in the United States.  That’s up 68 places since 1990!  Whoo-hoo, we’re making babies!

Unfortunately we’re being beat out by Ng.  Yup, Ng climbed 1148 places in the ranks to beat my surname out by 1 at 1168.  Damn!

Other surnames & their ranks you might find of interest:

Smith - 1
Church - 890
Gardner - 182
Daley - 1403
Kovacs - 3709
Spodak, Heatherly, Leese - Not in top 5,000.

And I love that Gay is ranked at 974, down 200 places since 1990.  I think it’s kinda funny that the gays aren’t populating as fast as others.

How popular is your last name?

LOL! Apparently, my name is 890th in popularity. Surprised it’s so high up on the list, but you know those Mormons! Apparently, the Leese’s just aren’t procreating as they should be . . .

2. Doug - November 21, 2007

Wow, my last name is ranked 2973, up from 3861 in 1990. My grandfather had 4 sons, and they had 7 kids between them, and there are 5 grandchildren that I know of, and more on the way as far as I know.

Too bad the gays aren’t doing more procreating. I know we’re trying…
