Smoke & Mirrors October 18, 2007

Today marks the 1-year anniversary of me quitting smoking.  And I haven’t had a single cigarette since.  Even better, I can’t recall the last time I actually thought about having one.
I’ve seen a lot of folks try quitting this past year, some successful, most not.  Seems a lot of people have moved into the “occasional” habit.  I’m not completely sure if that’s bad or good.  Obviously, it’s better than smoking a pack a day–healthy wise–but is it better psychologically?  According to Allen Carr, author of The Easy Way To Quit Smoking, the addiction is still there and, among other reasons, it may be worse than smoking a pack a day because mentally the smoker’s body is having to constantly suffer nicotine withdraw, where as the full time smoker’s body has it’s nicotine addiction fed.

Honestly, I can’t say I know the answer.  What I can say is that for the 13+ years I smoked cigarettes I wished I could be a social smoker.  I know I looked at those who smoked only when drinking, or only with friends, or only while at work, and I wished I could have such control, such power, over my own addiction.  I no longer wish that.
I no longer wish to be a social smoker, much less to be around smoking at all.  I couldn’t be happier that I quit smoking and it’s quite honestly one of the easiest things I have ever done in my life… thanks to Allen Carr’s Easy Way To Quit Smoking.  I won’t say it’s worked for everyone I know… but I will say this:

I smoked a pack of cigarettes a day for 13 and a half years.  I tried nicotine gum, medication and cold-turkey, none of which worked and all left me feeling like I was doing one of the hardest things in the world.

I then read Allen Carr’s book–while smoking–and knew it would work.  I just knew it.  And it did.  It cost me $17 to buy a book that ridded me of a disgusting habit that’s cost me tens of thousands of dollars over the years saved me tens of thousands more.

Do you smoke?  Read the book, after all, what do you have to loose?   Used copies of the book start at $9 bucks on Amazon.  Get it!

I couldn’t be happier for you! (well, unless you won the lottery and had an urge to share it with me).

Congratulations on your anniversary!!!!!!! It’s a huge one (hee hee) and deserves lavish praise and recognition. Lisa P is taking the seminar again soon, so we can send our support her way.

Oh Good for your Chris, Congrats. I quit 5 years ago but i did
it by the vodka method. Every time I had a craving to smoke I would
do a shot of Stoli. It worked…but I think it was because I kept passing out from all the drinking. I never had the chance to light up…

Well anyway!!! Congrats and happy anniversary
