635 Days Left In Office April 25, 2007

Sing that to the tune of Rent’s “525,600 minutes,” it’s fun.  Really.  That’s the number of days Bush has remaining in the White House.  “So far away.”

With all the talk of Clinton, Edwards and Obama, it seems we’re reminded on a daily basis.  Each day the NY Post has a full page story about how Senator Clinton’s numbers have dropped a half-percentage and Senator Obama’s are equally up.  It’s not really big news, but it seems to me it’s almost as if the NY Post is disappointed that Clinton isn’t doing better because she’s so easy for them to bash.

And there-in lies the problem; Clinton’s history.  While some say Obama’s lack of the same history makes him inadequate for office, it’s constantly used against them when they have one.  The truth is though, there’s only 4 years difference in their Senate experience.  Clinton has been in office now for about 6 and a half years, Obama 2 and a half years.  4 years in the Senate a President does not make.  At least no more or less than 3 or 7 years.  And here is where, to me, it gets interesting.

Before the US Senate Obama was part of the Illinois State Senate for 8 years.  Clinton was, well we all know, the first lady.  And not to belittle the First Lady’s position–Clinton tried to push through both houses the most amazing of Universal Child Health Care reforms–only to be thwarted by Republican strongholds who disliked her husband.

While I have no doubt that Clinton worked very hard and has a better understanding of the political machines that run Washington, I’m honestly sick of hearing about Obama’s lack of experience.  He’s worked in politics now for over 10 years.  He has experience.

Even more important to me, he has passion.  He moves me, and I’m ready to watch him move our country forward.  I do love Hillary Clinton, and if she wins the Democratic primary then by all means I will be 100% supportive, but today, at this time, my support–and money–is on Barack Obama for President in 2008.

We have so far to go before elections and regime changes, daily articles of “so-and-so gained/lost 1/2%” are meaningless. Must be a slow news day.

Are you groping Shrek in those pics? ;)
